Polk County Arrest History
The Polk County Sheriff is the main local law-enforcement agency, jail custodian, and contract service for Osceola, Stromsburg, and Shelby. Nebraska State Patrol troopers can also make arrests or assist a local case. One event can therefore yield several records: an incident and arrest narrative from the arresting agency, a booking and custody file from the sheriff, a fingerprint-supported arrest cycle at Nebraska State Patrol Criminal Identification Division, and a prosecution file in Polk County or District Court.
Those records need not use the same charge label. The Polk County Attorney screens the report and chooses what to file. An arrest entry records that officers took a person into custody or completed an arrest process. It does not establish guilt, and it may never become a court case. When a case is filed, the disposition must be read separately.

A focused request can seek an arrest report, incident narrative, booking sheet, jail log, dispatch record, or public warrant history. These are separate items. The official sheriff page is the primary source for the agency and contact details.
Looking Up Polk County Arrests
No single search covers the complete Polk County arrest trail. Begin with the source closest to the event, then move forward from custody to filing and disposition. Use the statewide record only after allowing time for fingerprints and court outcomes to reach the repository.
- Call the Polk County Sheriff at 402-747-2231 for current local custody. Give the full spelling and approximate arrest date, then ask what public charge, bond, and court facts staff can confirm.
- Identify the arresting agency. Ask the sheriff for its arrest narrative and booking record separately, or use the NSP public-record request channel if a trooper created the report.
- Send a narrow written request under Neb. Rev. Stat. §84-712 when a verbal check is not enough. Include record type, date range, incident or booking number if known, preferred format, and a request for a cost estimate.
- After the stated court-entry lag, search JUSTICE in both Polk County Court and District Court if the offense level is unclear. Read the filed charge and final disposition, not just the first docket line.
- Order a $30 public Nebraska Criminal History Record Request when statewide, fingerprint-supported Nebraska history is needed. A complete view requires the subject's notarized release.

Polk Arrests Enter PCH
Fingerprinting is the gate into the Nebraska PCH repository. Jail staff create the Polk County booking record and obtain fingerprints where required. The arresting agency forwards qualifying fingerprint submissions to Nebraska State Patrol CID. NSP says felony arrests must be forwarded, but a non-fingerprint or unforwarded event may never appear. Courts and justice partners later report the disposition that closes the arrest cycle.
A clear PCH result therefore does not prove that no police contact or arrest occurred. It can reflect missing qualifying fingerprints, a reporting gap, or statutory limits on the public view. The public report also removes specified no-charge, dismissal, and acquittal information under §29-3523. If an outcome is wrong or missing, start with the agency, prosecutor, or court that supplied the entry. The source must send the correction to NSP.
Inside a Polk County Arrest Record
An agency arrest report and a jail booking file describe related but distinct parts of the event. Request only the fields needed, and expect protected data to be removed. Polk County has no public booking profile from which to verify its exact labels, so these are documented categories to request, not a claim that every field is released.

No official Polk County source confirms a public mugshot field, charge-code layout, housing unit, or release-status display. Do not infer them from another Polk County.
Polk Arrest Charges Can Change
The officer's suspected offense is not the prosecutor's final charge. After an arrest, the Polk County Attorney reviews the report and evidence, then may file a different charge, fewer counts, or no case. County Court creates the first misdemeanor, traffic, ordinance, and felony-preliminary entries. A felony trial file then moves to District Court. That path explains why a booking label and later court information can disagree without either record describing the same stage incorrectly.

Booking Logs and Recent Arrests
No official Polk County daily booking log, recent-arrest page, inmate roster, released-person search, mugshot gallery, or sheriff app was found. The absence must shape the search. Call the sheriff for current custody, then request the precise booking document if verbal status is not enough. A county board reference to a monthly jail report supports internal administrative reporting, not a public online roster.
Do not substitute results from Polk County, Iowa; Polk County, Florida; or Osceola County. Those are different custodians. A search result from another jurisdiction can attach the wrong jail, person, charge, or vendor to a Nebraska inquiry. Polk Jail and State Custody
A person held before trial or serving local jail time belongs in the Polk sheriff's custody records. A person transferred after a state sentence belongs in Nebraska Department of Correctional Services data. It does not display Polk County jail intake in real time.
For an NDCS record not shown in the locator, the Public Disclosure Unit accepts a written request at DCS.PublicRecords@nebraska.gov or P.O. Box 94661, Lincoln, NE 68509. The agency follows the four-business-day statutory response framework. That period is not a promise that every record will be produced in four days. When production takes longer, the agency must give the required written response and estimated availability.

Polk Arrest Request Channels
The creator controls the request. Send sheriff reports and Polk County booking material to the sheriff. Send an NSP trooper report to NSP, not the county clerk. Send filed complaints, orders, and dispositions to the relevant court clerk. NSP warns that a request tied to a pending criminal case may be denied until the case ends. Active investigative detail, juvenile material, protected victim information, medical data, and personal identifiers may also be withheld or redacted.

It should be used only when NSP created the record, even if the arrest took place in Polk County.
Nebraska Public Records Statutes §84-712 and related sections support inspection and copy requests, subject to exemptions. A useful request gives contact details, a record type, date range, known incident or booking number, location, desired format, and a request for an estimate before chargeable work. Polk publishes no sheriff request fee table or standard turnaround beyond state law.
Arrests Are Not Convictions
A Polk County arrest record proves an arrest or booking event was recorded. A conviction record reflects a court judgment after a guilty plea or verdict. The records come from different offices, update at different times, and can have different public access limits. Read both before drawing a conclusion about the event.

Qualifying no-charge, dismissal, and acquittal information leaves the general NSP RAP view on statutory schedules under §29-3523. That public repository rule does not mean every originating agency or court record vanishes.
Note: An arrest is not proof of guilt, and a Polk County booking may end without a filed charge or conviction.
Federal Custody After Polk Arrests
A federal arrest or later federal sentence belongs to another system. The Bureau of Prisons locator covers federal incarceration from 1982 forward. It does not show Polk County pretrial jail custody or an NDCS state sentence. No federal prison is located in Polk County, and an active or sealed federal warrant is not guaranteed to appear just because a federal court docket exists.
